Artist Statement:
I am working on drawings, paintings, assemblages and collage. Primarily I am using dry medium and oil paint. My collages are made with mixed media and paper. I am interested in playing with the formal issues such as the relation of sizes shapes, and color. My process often involves a combination of working from life, memory and the photograph. The sources for my work include a history, memory, and imagination.
I am interested in playing with different ideas of building and deconstructing. Oils, charcoal and collage allow me to work in this manner. I feel like the subject matter coincides with the mediums I use when working, by creating a history that feels lived in and explored.
In my work I am setting up challenges for myself. In this exploration of variation in shape line and color, I have to make decisions that deal with how far to push a piece and when it should turn into a new one.
